Hi, I’m Bryan Atom Burstell.

For over 20 years, I’ve worked in the commercial advertising and film industry, helping bring stories to life through dynamic visuals, intentional lighting, and precise technical execution. My expertise lies in camera movement, lighting, and the technical systems that make modern production possible. From cameras and lenses to rigs, stabilization, and lighting technologies, I’ve built a deep understanding of how equipment choices directly shape both workflow efficiency, final image and narrative.

I’ve worn many hats on set, including Director of Photography, Camera Operator, Gimbal Operator, Jib Operator, Gaffer, and Key Grip. That range of experience hasn’t just made me technically versatile. It’s given me a deep appreciation for the collaborative art of filmmaking. As a Director of Photography, I take pride in helping bring the director’s vision to life, translating creative ideas into visual language through composition, movement, lighting, and the right technical tools. And as a gaffer, I learned firsthand how lighting defines emotion, guides performance, and supports the DP’s vision. Great lighting isn’t just about brightness or exposure any longer; it’s about creating mood, shaping space, and painting with color, texture, and tone to evoke exactly what the story needs in each moment.

Working in these interconnected roles has taught me to stay adaptable, communicate clearly, anticipate challenges, and lead teams with calm, forward-thinking direction. Whether adjusting to last-minute changes, problem-solving under tight budgets, or syncing seamlessly with production design and camera departments, I believe the best work comes from staying observant, collaborative, and focused on storytelling above all else.

In 2002, I founded Atomburst Production Services and Rentals, a boutique production company and rental house based in the Northern Hudson Valley of New York. I built Atomburst to support filmmakers and agencies with professional crew, top-tier equipment, and the kind of flexibility, care, and technical expertise you don’t always find at larger companies. Whether we’re providing gear for a single-day shoot or assembling a full-scale team, our mission remains the same: to bring your creative vision to life; on time, on budget, and with the artistry it deserves.
